2017-05-12   Rome      (Friday)

(Missed the 11th, but spent the day in the coach going from Sorrento to Rome.)

The final day of the tour.   Parted from the last of my Cosmos family.   (We are the ones who went to Sorrento together.)   Everyone else has gone home.   Was feeling a little funny with them all talking of going home and I still have a month left, but I| kept reminding myself I was on an adventure, with so much left to see.   Monica gets here on the 13th.

I was a little worried about getting to my new hotel as I hadn't booked any transportation.   When we arrived back in Rome on Thursday, apparently the taxis were all on strike that day, but the front desk said, "Don't worry.  Should be working tomorrow."   Hmmm...    They gave me a shuttle schedule that would take me near to the Colosseum, then I could hail a taxi from there, all the while hauling around these two suitcases, which are getting heavier by the day.

As the last four of my Cosmos family were leaving in the shuttle, the driver came to ask me where I was going.   She offered me a ride straight to my hotel across town for 30 euros, which is a lot cheaper than a taxi would have been.  What a relief !!!

I'm so glad I brought my book of Italian phrases along, so I could put together little sentences which helps to communicate.   Very few people speak English, or more than a few words.   We do a lot of sign language and then laugh.   John from San Diego speaks Spanish, which is fairly close to Italian, but they don't share a similar word for toilet paper.    So he demonstrated.   Hahaha.

Will post a picture of the little room I got at Hotel Porta Maggiore.   (Will fill in the other days eventually, if I can remember anything, as the tour went by in a blur.)

This room is a little small, but it's better than what Jodi Arias has.   Hee hee.

My room is a lot more crowded now that I've opened up my suitcases.

Monica sent me an email asking if there were hair dryers in the room.
I sent her this picture back.   This seems to be what this is for.
Saw one of these in a different hotel, but it was huge, the hose as big as a vacuum cleaner.
I had assumed it had something to do with cleaning the bidet, so didn't touch it .....

They have the same "tea towels" in the bathroom as I mentioned on the first day --- one for the sink, matching one for the bidet.   In this room there is another one for the shower of the same material.   It's not the same as a fluffy towel.
